Fancy riding a big chunk of stage 1 of the TdF?

on Fri, 21/03/2014 - 20:01

I saw a route in Cycling Plus starting/ending in Skipton that takes in a big chunk of stage 1. It follows stage 1 from Skipton to Ripon, then leaves it at Ripon to head back to Skipton.

115m(186k) with 7588ft(2313m) climbing.

The route includes all the climbs of the stage, Cote de Cray cat 4, Cote de Buttertubs cat 3, Cote de Griton Moor cat 3.

Cafe stop at the half way point in Grinton.

Skipton is an hour and twenty minutes drive away, aim to get there 8.30, ready to set off at 9am.

How about 20th July, who else fancies it?

stevedepport's picture

That's six so far, who else fancies testing themselves over the majority of stage 1? Any Strava hunters fancy testing themselves against the pro's on the three categorised climbs?

Sounds like a cracking ride. Count me in..  yessmiley

Yes.

Careful choosing your route over lads.  As you've picked the Sunday of the 'Ironman UK' and there will be a lot of road closures on the bike course loop between Ormskirk and were youre going to.

SNight's picture

I'll be up for it. Should have use of the van, so can take myself plus two others
stevedepport's picture

I will drive and have space for 2 more riders and their bikes, let me know if you want a lift.

Let's aim to get there for 8.00am, setting off at 8.30am.

Leave Ormskirk at 6.30am, meeting at the car park next to the bus station at 6.15am.

I will post a GPX route at a later date.

I think we have 9 takers so far, anyone else fancy flying the HMCC flag on the TdF route?

D N A's picture

Can I grab a lift please Steve?

craig s's picture

Yes Daniel, three with bikes - you, me + 1 space free
disco dan's picture

Much obliged, I'll fix you some fuel money of course. Thanks.
James Edge's picture

I am planning to go, (a bit like the captain it will be weather dependant wink). I too can take myself + two others if needed & at a push three others.

stevedepport's picture

106 miles and 7,900 ft of climbing, if the weather looked really bad we can all give it a miss, not just James.

Steve Depport. I'll catch a lift with Craig S if that's okay as he only lives round the corner so it's easier to sort things out. Thanks.

modevrs130's picture

Sam you can jump in with me and Rick............John Lynch

Sam Wood's picture

Cheers John, where do you want me to meet you?
modevrs130's picture

Its looking like they are meeting at the carpark near the shop for 6-15am and set to leave at 6-30..No doubt there will be an update midweek...I live in skem, where do you live sam ?...

Sam Wood's picture

Aughton, so the car park seems best, I assume everyone will end up driving 'in convoy' like we did on the great Dunn fell ride
stevedepport's picture

The plan is to meet at the car park opposite the shop at 6.15am, setting off at 6.30am, probably in convoy.

We are heading to a business centre where we will be able to park for free and there is a McDonalds on site too.

Airedale Business Park, Millenium Road, Skipton, BD23 2UB.

I think there are 10/11 of us looking at the posts above. I have space for 2 riders plus bikes if anyone want to share.

Please load the route onto any device you have in case of any problems.

jessiemomo's picture

Sean is it only me and you goin in your van? if so is it worth us both just jumping in with Steve.

No point in taking more cars than is needed.

stevedepport's picture

If that's the case, we can either go in Sean's van or my car, don't mind which.

D N A's picture

Mrs A has just advised me that it's our girls ballet show 3pm on Sunday. Enough said.......enjoy the Dales :(

If there is any space left in anyone's car/van I wouldn't mind having a go at this? Contribution to fuel costs will of course be made!
