Welsh Wales- 17th August
Forums:
After the Welsh epic of last year over the Halkyns, we're looking at a return trip on August 17th (it may switch to 10th)
Drive to Two Mills then follow a route through the Halkyns, Moel Fammau, skirt Ruthin & then London Bridge. Lunch at the Pet Cemetary & back to the Mills.
Approx 65miles with a lot of climbing, steady pace & we will wait for people.
cheers
Keith
Date agreed?
I've heard the date has been set for 17th. Is that right? I'm on board this one......can't wait. What are the plans; meeting times, etc....? How many confirmed partaking?
100+
I'm considering making this into a longer ride by cycling to and from Two Mills (probably about 120 miles in total depending on route) if anyone wants to join me? Will be dependant on the weather though....
I'm in...
...and happy to look at the extra with you Inder if the timings work out with the group start from Two Mills. Is it stil the 17th Keith?
Confirmed for 17th August,
Confirmed for 17th August, 9am Two Mills,
inder i will be up for
Open to suggestions
Craig and Dave,
Had a quick look at routes, most direct is via Liverpool, catching the train to Birkenhead then A41 and Welsh road to Two Mills. About 30 miles (from Skem) and the first train on a Sunday leaves Liverpool 7.56 and arrives at Birkenhead Central 8.08, it's 10 miles from there so should reach Two Mills in time for the group start comfortably. However, this assumes there are no issues with the train....
Another option is via the Runcorn bridge, which adds on about 5 miles and would require an earlier start. I haven't looked at this route in detail yet. I'll post specifics of both routes in the next few days, but if either of you (or anyone else who's up for this) has any ideas or a burning desire to plot a route please feel free to suggest!

Routes to Two Mills
I'm still planning on cycling to Two Mills on Sunday (still dependant on weather!) as promised here are the two possible routes:
1) Via Liverpool (catching the first train from Liverpool Central 8.00 to Birkenhead Central 8.07), changed it a little from that mentioned above to avoid A41 and Welsh Road as far as possible. 30 miles from Skem. http://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_3915290.html
2) Via Runcorn Bridge (extra 5 miles and a tiny bit more elevation still flat though would require a slightly earlier start I guess but not much in it).http://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_3915291.html
Dave, Craig if you are still up for this and anyone else who wants to joins let me know and also indicate any route preference we can sort out times and meeting points.
I'm leaning towards the first rout as it looks more difficult to get lost. Will upload a TCX file to my Garmin 500 but don't know how reliable this will be as I'm yet to use the courses function. Will bring along a paper map too of course.

2 mills Sunday
Happy with train and A41
Talk of splitting this ride
Talk of splitting this ride into two groups which seems sensible as it looks like we are going to have a big turnout.
Quite a few are riding into town and getting the train over including myself.
sounds like a plan
OK, cycle to Liverpool and catch the 8.00 from Central to Birkenhead then straight down A41.
No worries Craig we'll see you at central (and Howie and possibly a few others by the looks of it) for the 8am.
Dave, happy to meet you at Bone Island but 7.30 is not going to get us to Liverpool for 8am. Commute usually takes me an hour. Can knock a few mins off no traffic and backpack but then need to buy tickets and get down to the lower level platform. Shall we say 7.00 (or even 6.50) to be on the safe side?
If anyone else wants to cycle from Skem or meet at Liverpool for the last 10 miles you are more than welcome, just post so that we know to wait for you wherever you want to meet.

sounds like a plan
If we have too many for one
If we have too many for one group we can have all the riders who are cycling home in one group.
May need to add to it with some who are driving home but we do seem to have a good few riding all the way.

OK Dave, see you at 6.40am
OK Dave, see you at 6.40am Sunday!
