Assuming we are all in the same boat, that's the good ship 'short of miles but long on chocolate'! The plan is for a steady ride heading towards Billinge which will mean a steady climb through the town. Then on to Shevington for the second and final steady climb of the day. Make our way up towards Eccleston and Leyland before heading to Rufford for anyone who wants a cafe stop. there could be a slow motion cafe sprint if you want one?

For anyone not stopping, we will carry on over Curlew lane heading back to Ormskirk for about 12.30pm. Total about 50 miles.

Well where were you? I got out and quickly wondered if I had done the right thing. After taking so long to get kitted up I thought i will at least ride to McD's and get a coffee. Did that and then thought that I would go past the shop and if there was nobody there head home for the turbo. It turned out there were a few other hardy souls at the shop and we ended up with about a dozen riders.

A mix of riders from different groups and different sexes. Under the club constitution we are all considered 'boys' but based on this mornings turnout there was a far higher percentage of boys of the female persuasion. It seems they might be a lot hardier than the other boys. (I just avoided writing lady boys, that would get very confusing!)

We decided to stay as one group, stick to the main roads and loop along the coast road for a cafe stop in Rufford. A couple of minor mechanicals with the same rear mudguard apart, it all went very smoothly. There was even some gentle winding up of the pace on the A59 near Rufford, point the finger at Gary for that.

As everyone relaxed turning into the cafe, Simon rode across a large frozen puddle and crashed down. He seems OK but his mech hanger snapped trying to straigthen it. Cue a call to his wife to come to the rescue and a complete loss of any brownie points acrued by Simon.

A steady ride back to Ormskirk along the A59 rounded off the morning. Blown a few cobwebs away, nice to get out in the fresh air and burn off some chocolate.
