Race group only ride 1 loop of Bolton IMUK course
Forums:
Only one circuit completed, reasonably fast ride though - averaged about 18.6 for the circuit with a fair bit of climbing.
Disappointing numbers on the ride though - only 7 starters and 6 finishers. I think more of the regular A/Race group would have managed the ride if they had given it a go.
Cafe before 12.30, bit busy but managed to get a table inside which was good as it started to drizzle.

Not So Iron Man
Cheers to Wilko for leading today's ride, and 'thanks' to Kevan for never letting the pace drop many apologies for completely forgetting to bring my climbing legs on today's ride, I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't happen again
Wilko's right, we do need a few more riders on these type of rides. I can personally vouch for the group in that no-one gets left behind at the top of climbs, no matter how often they are the last up so, as long as you're thick-skinned enough to take the cafe piss taking, you'll be fine
85 miles for me today so a decent deposit in the mileage bank.
Great Race Group
Thanks to Wilko for leading us round the course at a cracking, unrelenting pace considering its undulating nature. It seems to be a course designed to give you little to no rest. Congratulations to 'Cervelo Dave' for being on the drops, in the 'big dog' burning the grease, more than I've seen anyone this past 6 months on a group ride (I'm sure sure your calves are bigger than mine) Adam, as usual was beasting the climbs, and Andrew and Steve were solid in all areas.
As for the number of takers, I think a few to many got psyched out by the comments on the forum. A lot of riders that I have riden with, could of more than handled the ride.
Too many riders rely on miles or hours as a marker towards greater fitness. But this has much less impact on your fitness than does 'intensity'. Getting the intensity right will result in faster riding. The reason riders focus so much on duration as a marker of progress, is because it's easily measured, all you need is an odometer and a stopwatch. Riders are much less inclined to talk about intensity as a measure of fitness progress as it is much harder to measure and define.
All you have to do is look how quickly everyones comes on in their fitness when the 'Chainies' start. So if your sat in the A's just putting up the 'junk' miles, your not doing yourself any favours. Time to push yourself into the 'Hurt Locker' more often, and move onto the next level.
See you on the next Race Group.
