August Day Out - Wild Wales Training

During the Great Dun Fell ride we talked (over the most expensive soup in Cumbria, at the nicest cafe stop I have had to date) about organising a few more rides out. With the Bala trip in June and Ste D's TdF ride in July then August jumps out as a good month to sort something. I mentioned driving out to South Manc and then heading into the peak district with a visit to the excellent Polocini Cycling Cafe. With the Wild Wales later in August then testing our legs on the long drags and punchy climbs in the area could be great training.

Date

Sunday 3rd August

Route

Still a little bit of fiddling but - up the Cat and Fiddle ways (steep way from Congleton, then the traditional way from Macc), Goyt Vally (up and down) - cafe stop at the great cafe on top of the Cat and Fiddle (good cake @65km) - descend then take in Gun Hill (When Cav was a wee junior he said that Gun Hill once made him cry!!!) then loop round to take in Mow Cop (the 25% wall infamous from the Kilo to Go Cheshire Cat sportive) at just over 100km.

Keeping the distance sensible as you can see there is a lot of climbing

So who's in?

Count me in. Somewhere I've never explored on the bike and I really like the sound of that cafe as well. Anytime in August is good for me and I can have use of the van again, so plenty of room for bikes.

I'm away on holiday for two weeks, 3rd - 17th August 2014. Great timing and prep prior to the wild Wales challenge lol. :)

I'm bad and that's good. I will never be good and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be, than me. (Wreck-It Ralph, 2012)

sounds good....I've only got the 2nd/3rd August free!!

I also did some nice riding round Horseshoe pass last year - http://www.strava.com/activities/87315133 - it was short but an absolute cracker!

Yeah the horseshoe pass and that part of Wales is great but I dont want to clash with anything Ste D has in mind for the Bala trip - also gives us an excuse for HMCC to hit the Peak District and Polocini.

All welcome Dangerous, think we will all need the training for WW.

...if possible

Right everyone - who is still up for this. I know I will need the hills before the Wild Wales. Looking at responses it will run on SUNDAY 3rd AUGUST

Bad news is that Polocini Cafe has closed down which is a real shame, however it means I can chenge the route so it doesnt have to visit Romiley. I will get my thinking cap on, but who is up for this?

I have updated the original post (OP) - to avoid confusion. This is happening on 3rd August - on Facebook we already Dan M, Titch, Sean N, John Lynch, Howie poss Chris G - who else is up for this?
