Forums:

Hi everyone....

I've finally got round to this....Wednesday 2nd September - 8pm La Cantina, Ormskirk

This is a chance for the following types club riders to come along and have a chat about racing in 2016 over a beer:

- Any HMCC riders interested in racing in 2016
- Any current HMCC racers

The meet will be a chance to discuss the following (not exclusively):

- the Structure of the 2016 season (Crits, RR, TT, etc)
- Any possible team HMCC race opportunities 2016 - i.e more than 2 riders in the same race
- How The license and points system work for Road
- Information regarding the local and wider TT race scene
- Possible discussions around Track racing
- Volunteering and supporting local race scene

I think last year was a huge success for the club in terms of racing, including our inaugural HMCC Race (we won’t be talking about the 2016 race at this meet), i reckon it might be a good time to start looking at HMCC domination 2016 :-) .... joking aside i think we have a very strong existing and emerging race group/ team that has the potential to really shine in 2016 and this is a chance to talk about it over a few beers.

I'll be drawing on the vast experience within the club of people to talk about key subject areas, people like (not exclusively, sorry if I’ve missed you)....
Colin Batchelor
Graham Hodge
Mark Titchener
Garry Burns
David Jackson
Captain?

This is something that will be picked up on again in a new year meeting with El Cap-i-tain so at this stage it’s a bit of a mid winter natter.

let me know if you're coming...

Ps  i'm new to this Race thing, i am, however not new to beer ;-)

sorry for the delayed write up.... Elves have been causing chaos in the workshop!!

So... a total of around 18 keen Racers decided they wanted to either:

a. listen to me babble on

b. sample the fine pints on offer at La Cantina

either way it was a cracking meeting, very very productive with lots of motivated and keen riders for next season. It certainly wasn’t a formal meeting but i did take some notes so those that couldn’t make it could see discussion points:

Key topics of discussion:

- Race licenses- Race points

- TT racing (Club & Open)

- Volunteering- Virtual club room

- Race training

Discussion points:

-  there was talk of a 'Virtual club Room' - a place those racing can share training, races, plans, lift sharing etc. This may be a section on the web site? Facebook may be isn’t the best place to do this as a primary resource but could be useful.

- A club calendar on the web site would be good - race dates etc.

- Several crits series events local on next year’s calendar - Tuesday = Tameside..... Wednesday = Litherland..... Thursday = Lancaster & Preston Arena - a good place to start gain points and gaining race craft.

- Tom Gripe @ Lihterland (Merseyside Cycling Development) has asked if HMCC can help run a block of 4 weeks at Litherland - this will be covering for the loss of Merseyside Wheelers. This would be 4 consecutive weeks, requires 4-6 people marshalling, organising equipment etc. Maybe a rota for the 4 weeks. Many people felt this would be a good thing to do as we are so prevalent at Litherland - give something back.  HMCC are also affiliated with MCD.

- People thought a lead out training session would be beneficial for racing next season. Possibly on Pimbo and a specific session.

- The TLI league is a good place to gain race experience and has plenty of mixed races- no BC points though

- Captain suggest that any new racers should get out there and race as many different courses as possible. Gain experience.

- From January 2016 there will be a Race specific training run every 2-3 weeks leading up to the start of the race calendar. This session will be run as a Sunday club run and will be specifically for race strategy, race specific riding skills, drills, rising the gutter! The great thing about this session is that it will be directed/ lead by one of the experienced members of the club, Matt, Paul Moy, Hodgy, (not exclusively - these where just thoughts). It will be a chance to soak up some knowledge and experience, to train as a unit, to learn how to ride in a race... Exciting!!! I will help co-ordinate the dates from January as a starting point.

- Local TT's - the intricacies (Old Skool) of racing TT's where discussed, the way Opens, Clubs run. Entering them via CTT.

- Volunteering at the local TT events (Rainford, Southport) - Ideally at Prescott eagles.

- MDTTA league is a good place to race.

- Some support (food, Water etc) for anyone considering doing lengthy TT's would be great, - they do need to let everyone know though! :-)

All in all a cracking catch up.... People were ready to go home and jump on the turbo (except it was around 10:45pm when we finish)!!

I believe bits may get picked up on in the new year.

Cheers

Dan

All good Dan, one change -  Lancaster crits (Salt Ayre) are Tuesday not Thursday, they run a TT at the circuit on a Thursday :)

Also races at the Steven Burke circuit in Nelson on a Tuesday, Blackpool on a Wednesday and there will be a new circuit in Bolton which should open this coming season

Haven't seen an exact date yet Ric, was told by a BC bod that it will be 'by the end of the summer' , I'll ask around and see where they are up to :)
