Who remembers Brett, the Aussie powerhouse?
I know that Steve, Wilko and Mark, among others, will remember Brett who cycled with us a few years back. For those who don't - an amazing bloke. Former rugby league professional, had done an ironman triathlon. Turned up at the shop one Sunday on a 5 speed 1970s Raleigh with completely dodgy cotter pins that he'd bought off Ebay for 50 quid wearing pumps and proceeded to beast everyone. Did the club hill cimb up Shaley Brow and ony had a big ring and still beat loads of us. Top bloke too - PE teacher in Speke and went back to Australia as his (English) wife was having their first baby.
Anyway, I had an email from him this week. Turns out he doesn't do procreation by halves either as he now has FOUR children under three and a half. He says he feels like he does a triathlon every day now. And the big news (and the reason that he wrote to me) is that he's coming back to Aughton as his wife wants to be closer to her family and he was enquiring about some supply work at Ormskirk. I asked about the Raleigh (obviously) but sadly he disposed of it when he returned down under. If he turns up with a good bike, look out.
Bloody hell, Brett. He was
Bloody hell, Brett. He was something else. Will be great to see him back.
I remember him well, the
I remember him well, the sight of him accelerating past the fast boys at the head of the bunch, buckled wheel wobbling and cotter pin clicking away will never beforgotten.
