on Tue, 24/02/2015 - 09:07

Hell of Lancashire 2015 - its back....with new sectors!!!

With the success of 2014 HMCC classics ride I’ve decided we should do it again (i might be on my own)!!!

Sunday 29th March 2015 (usual shop meet time)

- One group of hardcore classic HMCC riders (if large number we may split)

- You have to ride a road bike or cross bike....no mountain bikes

- The route will be around the lancashire 'Lanes' taking in gravel sections, cobbles, potholes, canal, trails, dirt roads etc

- This year I’ve added in some new sectors

- It will probably be around 42miles all being well and good

- It will feel like more

Sunday 22nd February 2015 'Race Group'

on Thu, 19/02/2015 - 18:40

"When 'Wilkos' away the racers will play"

Change of plan for Sunday as I believe the weather is going to be a bit hit and miss, with it deteriorating after midday.  This, combined with distance and ETA back, will make the job harder to recruit 'Race Group' riders for a 'spin up' over to Waddington-'Bashall Barn' (save this one for a nicer day)

  So with this in mind, and to take your minds off the weather, we're going to keep it local, flat and very fast (this is NOT an easy option) (this is NOT a no-drop ride) read on;

After a 10-minute warm up to the 'Ring O Bells' we're going to follow

Sunday 15th February 2015 Race Group

on Fri, 13/02/2015 - 11:03

With 'Commander Wilko' being away in Scotland this weekend/next week (bloody Teachers i hear you cry wink) he's asked me to step in and lead the Race Group out this coming Sunday 15th February.

The ride will likely encounter a few hills en route, although nothing too strenuous, a few downhills and some flat long speed TT sections.  So something for everyone.  The pace will be kept within Race Group perimeters, at 18-20mph avg, slighty slower on the hills will be permitted, with re-grouping at the bottom of them.

NO-ONE to be left behind except at the end, after Croston.

15th Feb - Alt A ride

on Thu, 12/02/2015 - 13:46

The most romantic weekend of the year and nothing we love more than our bikes, so planning a slightly longer route this weekend (if the forecast is kind).

Plan is to take a direct route to Rivington, take the long drag up Chorley Old Road, left at the Bob Smithy Pub and round to Belmont and then back over Rivington and drop down to the reservoirs, back through Chorley and home. Unsure on a cafe stop will take a view from the group and see how we get on timewise. With no cafe stop expect to be back at the shop around 12:30ish.

With the growth of the B groups anyone wanting to give the A's a go

Sunday 8th February A group

on Fri, 06/02/2015 - 15:24

The weather looks to be thawing a bit so we will venture a bit further this Sunday. Heading out to Croston, then Whittle le Woods before looping around Brindle and Brinscal. Heading back through Chorley towards Appley Bridge then the run home via Bickerstaffe. Might throw in Bank Top to take the BOOM out of anyone's legs before the extended sprint finish to Aughton.smiley

Should be back in Ormskirk for 12.30.

Not planning a cafe stop but if you want one then Fir Tree Farm at Kings Moss or the cafe at the post office at the top of Appleby Bridge might suit you.

8th Feb, Alternative A ride

on Fri, 06/02/2015 - 12:59

Another nippy forecast for Sunday but if the meterologists are to be believed we should be ice free. If numbers are like last week then I will take an A paced group out for a local blast.

As long as the roads are clear the plan will be to head out towards Ashurst Beacon for a loop taking in a couple of lumps before heading out for a fast flat blast towards Croston, Tarleton and Holmeswood and back to the cafe at Rufford. Roughly 60km. If the roads around Ashurst arent great then will probably head towards Southport.

A group Sunday 1st February

on Fri, 30/01/2015 - 20:31

Neil has already posted in the forum about possibly running two A rides, dependent on the numbers, so check his post out as well.

I was planning to take a ride north to Leyland, then turn south through Eccleston to Shevington, then Orrell. A nice descent of Shaley Brow before a cafe stop at Fir Tree farm (for those wanting one). For those not stopping, back through Rainford to Ormskirk.

About 50 miles, should be back for 12.30pm.

All weather dependent of course!
