HMCC go climbing in the Lakes
HMCC's second big day is only weeks away, as promised this will be an attempt to run last years ride - as last year the roads we will be taking on are unfamiliar to most, narrow and very steep - if the roads are wet I wont be there however the date set is 31st July so hoping for a dry sunny day.
The route - Meet in south lakes I will post closer to the time re car parks etc. We then head out over some lumpy roads heading North West before picking up the Fred Whitton route at Eskdale Green - here we turn east and head up and over Hardknott and then straight afterwards Wrynose - both of these are the classic routes and you will chalk off 2 of the 100 greatest climbs. For those that arent aware these climbs are super steep, both going over 25% multiple times, Hardknott has a 50m stretch at close to 33%. After this we get to rest our legs as we head to Ambleside before taking on one last little challenge, The Struggle - named because it is one - The pro's will taking this on at the Tour Of Britain this year so thought it would be "fun" for us to ride it. After this we loop back to Ambleside, and then skirt Grizedale forest and head back to our cars. 70 miles with 8500ft of climbing.
We will set off at 9am - will confirm logistics closer to the time, may well try and find a cafe to stop at but the Lakes can be murder in high summer so we may skip them.
Speed will be set at A pace however I believe the B's are planning to run this ride too.
