Spring Rake
Posted this up on Facebook and looks like we have a few takers.
On Sunday 28th I will take out a group to Ramsbottom - Route attached but basically out to Rivi, over Sheephouse, Belmont then following a similar route to the Roman Road. At Edgworth we then turn for Ramsbottom and take on the Rake. For those that haven't atempted this climb, it isn't in the 100 climbs book, nor has it been used as a National Hill Climb for nothing. It is relatively short but a steep bugger, 1km in total with the last 400m ranging between 20%-25%. From here we sweep off down the Grane Road, which rolls before opening up to a long gentle descent, we then turn for Darwen, up over a climb to Tockholes, we then head round to Chorley, Buckshaw, Eccleston and back to Ormskirk.
Currently the forecast is good and clear so this will run - however shocking rain or ice will mean I pull this - trust me climbing the Rake will be tough enough without ice, it is so steep it is often closed to traffic when ice is present.
I am not planning a cafe stop - mainly because I have no idea if anywhere is any good. Will proably stop at Edgworth at the Newsagent to buy some water (I think the ice cream shop over the road has a take away coffee shop for those needing some caffeine) - so please make sure you have food and energy products to keep you fuelled.
B riders - I think Matthew Williams is planning an assault on the Rake, but a shorter less lumpy route.
