Captains Big Day Out!

Matt Middleton - The Captain's picture
on Wed, 19/02/2014 - 09:32
Rider ability:
Estimated Distance:
90-100 mile

We are aiming to do the Trough, but we are going to head to Chipping or Dunsop Bridge first and then take it from there. If the weather or roads look shite, we will then head over towards Mellor instead for a 70+ mile ride.  If all goes to plan, these are the details -

  • Leave @ 9.15am
  • Arrive at Dunsop Bridge Cafe for 11.30ish
  • 45min break
  • Then over the Trough of Bowland
  • Stop at Scorton shop (not cafe)
  • Split the groups A & B if needed
  • Then head down the A6 if a few tried legs, if not through Wood Plumpton.
  • Then A59 Preston
  • Cobble Bridge and towards Midge Hall, Croston etc or A59 if a few tried legs.

 What you need -

  1. Money £10 plus
  2. 2 x Bottles with fuel in, not just water! Extra hydro tablets or sachets as well.
  3. Energy Bars & Gels
  4. 2 x Inner Tubes, tyre levers etc.
  5. Phone

The Race, A Group riders will do most on the work on rotation. Now I need communication on this ride for it to work!! Feel tried shout, getting dropped shout, puncture shout!!!! At the bottom of each climb I will ride up with the slowest rider.  90-100 mile is a long way, eat and drink correctly and you will make it!

Ride Date:
Sun, 13/04/2014
Departing time:
9 A.M.
Departing from:
The Bicycle Lounge, Moor Street, Ormskirk

Looking forward to it. Did this ride last year 1st big hilly ride i had done struggled a bit but with Matt and Dan's help i managed it. Hopefully i have improved enough to do this no problem and not hold anyone up on the climbs like the 20+% climb near Sykes farm on the Trough. If you haven't done this ride before then give it a go :)

Assuming this ride is still on for the 13th I am in.

Might be the first outing for the 'good bike'.
