Yesterday was round 3 of the Morvelo Citycross format - the nearest thing you'll get to how it was riding with your mates on the streets when you were 7.  Following on from a sandpit drama in Round 2 in Halifax last November (see pic32 here www.citycross.co.uk/photos), the 'whoops' obstacle in Leeds lived up to its name yesterday (https://twitter.com/Joolzephoto/status/478139890824396800/photo/1.  Fortunately a couple of trips through the beer run which forms part of the course saw the aches and pains fade away.  Can thoroughly recommend it as a fun day out with some good racing at all levels - our kids ride the junior races and have a ball too.  Round 4 likely later this year at venue tbc

North West CX league kicks off 6 September in Chorley with Saturday or Sunday races running through to early January.  There are about 8 or so rounds that are within easy distance and it is not essential to do all the others as averaging of results applies.  All out effort for an hour or so with kids races beforehand so great way to get the family involved/justify the day out.  See nwcca.org.uk for calendar etc.  Sign up on the day with he kids race just £1

First round of the season yesterday at a stunning venue north of Chorley.  Must have been 200+ racing across the different categories with lots of other first timers making it feel very approachable.  Stayed at the back of the starting group in a vets race of c.100 riders.  Finished mid table which I thought acceptable for a first time out on a new bike/discipline and tight track as a  V45.  But then there were other riders of the same age and older (much) who were miles faster - think they must have judged their tyre pressures better maybe?  At least two other HMCC riders in club kit (Steve and ?) who were neck and neck in the Seniors race of c.60 riders where the speed and skills were a joy to watch.  Our kids were at a birthday party so couldn't ride but the junior races were superb.  Mountain bikes and even a tourer with pannier rack and rear view mirror racing so no reason not to give it a go.  Check out NWCCA.org.uk

...for the last race in the NWCCA League.  Entries online via the BC events pages or on the day for all age groups starting with the under 8's.  MTB's, fixies, tourers and hybrids have all been seen on the start line this year so great opportunity for anyone fancying a lie in after the dinner on Saturday to get over to the Beacon for the start of racing around lunchtime.

Mention too for the Green Jersey CX/XC ride from the shop in Clitheroe on 1 Feb.  Bit of everything on this one including some of the Gisburn single track
