Time to visit Great Dun Fell, hopefully the weather is OK as we have had to cancel this ride more than once over the last few years. Starting in Kendal we will go clockwise, starting up Shap Fell and reaching the top at 10 miles in, then on to Great Dun Fell at about 34 miles in, cafe stop near Appleby at 50 miles, returning to Kendal.

Meet - Ormskirk bus station car park 6.15, leaving at 6.30am

Travel to - Castle Drive, Kendal, LA9 7BN for about 8.00am (this is a car park at Kendal Football club grounds)

Kendal sits at the bottom of the River Kent valley, so unless you are canoing downriver, every way is up.

Shap Fell - 9.0 miles long/1,245ft or 370m of climbing/average 3%/max 8%/KOM 22.55/HMCC KOM Neil Pollington 47.38 (the climbing starts pretty much straight out of Kendal, so STEADY)

Great Dun Fell - 4.6miles long/2,051ft or 632m of climbing/average 9%/max 20%/KOM25.22/HMCC KOM Andy Disley 39.46 (DNA your time to beat from your overgeared trip is 1.05.34!)

Cafe 66 - we will stop here after Great Dun Fell at about 50 miles. It is outside Appleby on the A66. Trip Advisor #1 for eating in Appleby.

We can sort some car sharing, just need to know who is going.

If someone would like to lead a B group, all the details you need are here too.

If the weather is good enough for the ride to go ahead then I'll be on this one.

WEATHER UPDATE - FORECAST AT THE MOMENT IS SHOWERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY SOME TURNING HEAVY AND THUNDERY, PARTICULARLY ON SUNDAY, BREEZY AT TIMES. UNLESS THIS CHANGES I WILL CALL THE RIDE OFF. WATCH THIS SPACE.

WE DO NOT WANT TO BE AT THE TOP OF SHAP FELL OR GREAT DUN FELL IN THESE CONDITIONS.

The forecast has improved and i am happy to go. Lot's of climbing to do.

See you Sunday - contact me on 07753 496966 if you need to.

I am aware that Darren FOF is making his own way up there and will meet us in Kendal. Is anyone else going straight there?

I'm planning on driving myself, but I can only get one bike in the car I'm afraid. I'll meet up in Ormskirk rather than going straight there though so I can follow everyone else if that's OK.

OK see you Sunday.

Is everyone ok for a lifts? If so then I'll drive myself. There is a chance I won't make it (been a long week and not sure if I have another early start in me). If I'm not at the car park (Ormskirk or Kendal) at the times you mentioned then assume I've stayed in bed.

OK we will see you if we see you.

I can fit 1 or maybe 2 in my car as well.
