Hardknott and Wrynose 14th June

Only a couple of weeks to go so here are the details for the lake district ride.

The ride itself:

100km / 60miles of tough riding in the lakes, lots of climbing and virtually no flat hence why the distance is relatively modest. Compacts and sausage cogs will be required! Plan is to ride at A pace but no one will be dropped, as discussed at the meeting if there is interest in a seperate group going out then happy to share the route etc. Plan is to start near Newby Bridge and head west then north up to Hardknott, we will then climb Hardknott the tough side with long sections over 20% max'ing at 30% near the top. Then over Wrynose, the easier side but still some 20% bits to get over. We then head to Coniston (where a cafe stop is probable) before cycling through Grizedale Forest back to the cars.

Timings

I have found a free car park here: http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/newby_bridge_staveley_in_cartmel/  The Gummers How one, only small but we should be OK, if anyone has good local knowledge please let me know. Aim to be parked up by 8/8:15 so we can hit the road by 8:30. Not sure on time home, lots of tough climbs and technical descents which need care if we have a cafe stop then i would guess we would be back at the cars about 2/2:30.

Weather

Hoping we get a scorcher, unlikely in the lakes, however if the forecast is poor (ie lots of rain) then i may call it off as many of these descents will be treachorous in the wet - keep on on this thread for details.

Any questions or comments let me know on a Sunday run or on here.

Forecast for the weekend is mixed, but currently dry for Sunday. As above if it is forecast rain on Sunday then this will be cancelled, this isnt me needing to MTFU but the fact the descents off the two climbs are hard enough in the dry and I would rather re-arrange for safer day.

A few people asked me about this on Sunday's ride - any chance we can get an idea on numbers so we know who we should be waiting for on Sunday.

I am up for this if the weather is ok.

Forecast has moved slightly to rain on Saturday night but still looks dry but cloudy on Sunday - will make a final call Friday night/Saturday morning.

Ste - Chris Garman and Sam Wood want to come but dont have transport - could you take either or both?

stevedepport's picture

Yes, I would have space for both of them. Fingers crossed for the wetaher nowyes

Postponed :(

Sorry guys weather has conspired against us again - rain is due all morning tomorrow - as I posted I am putting safety first as the descents off Hardknott and Wrynose will be a nightmare - hope to rearrange this later in the Summer.
